The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.
-Sacrosanctum Concilium, 1963 |
By virtue of our Baptism into Christ's Church, we are all called to minister to each other's needs. One way to serve the Church and each other is to particiapte in the parish's music ministry. Through the service of our music ministers, we strive to meet the spiritual needs of our OLQP community and to make our celebration of the Mass just that: a truly life-giving celebration! Our hope is that you will prayerfully consider lending your voice or other musical gifts to the music ministry at OLQP.

Adult Choir |
The OLQP Adult Choir shares its music ministry with the congregation at the 10:30am Sunday Mass from September to May each year. The choir provides a musical foundation in order to encourage congregational singing, and uses selected choral works to enhance the liturgy and amplify the message of the Gospel.
The Adult Choir presents a 30 minute concert at 8:30pm on Christmas Eve each year, featuring a mix of vocal solos, choral pieces, readings, and instrumental solos.
The Adult Choir is open to any member of OLQP of high school age or older who wishes to share his or her talent.
Practices are held on Thursdays at 7:00pm in the choir loft from September through May.

Cantors
Cantors are a very important part of the music program. Just as the lector and celebrant share a dialogue with the congregation in the liturgy, the cantor, by way of psalm and song, shares a musical dialogue with the celebrant and the congregation. The cantor enables the congregation to participate in song by leading them in singing and by sometimes teaching them new music. The cantor, as psalmist, is a partner with the lector in the proclamation of the Word of God.
Participation in the cantor program is open to any member of OLQP of high school age or above. A short audition with the Director of Music is required of any new cantors. For more information contact Ryan McEldowney.

Instrumental music can be used to great effect to enhance our Catholic liturgy. There are numerous Biblical references to musical instruments, including harps, trumpets, drums, cymbals, and horns of all types. Though the Bible may not specificallly mention them, we frequently use the organ, piano, guitars, and flutes during worship. Whatever the instrument, we can likely find a place for it in our music ministry at OLQP.
Participation in the instrumental music program is open to any member of OLQP. A short audition with the Director of Music is required of any new instrumentalists.
For more information, contact Ryan McEldowney.
