SCHOOL CLASSROOMS
2nd Grade
Teacher: Karen Kovochich
I am an OLQP graduate class of 1997 and have been a parishioner for over 20 years. I graduated from Cardinal Stritch University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a focus on Religious Studies. I am also teaching Religious Education to children who go to a public school on Sundays.
I believe every child has the ability to learn and succeed. Every child learns at a different pace and an effective teacher creates an inviting and safe environment. I also believe education is a collaborative effort between the student, parent, and teacher. Communication is the key to success and my goal is to keep the lines of communication open throughout the year.
Goals
Writing- I want every child to see himself/herself as a writer. This will allow each child to feel comfortable communicating in different ways. I implement the Step Up to Write technique which focuses on making a color coded outline of ideas and then transferring them to a paragraph.
Reading- Reading is essential to success in education. The students have daily DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time, Accelerated Reader tests, and book reports to keep them reading.
Religion- I feel blessed to be able to teach the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. I want each child to experience God’s love through the sacraments, going to church and learning about our faith.
