The social studies curriculum emphasizes connecting past events with what’s going on in the world today.
Grade 5 learns about Ancient Civilizations including Ancient Egypt, Rome, and Greece. The fifth grade is also required to know the state capitals, the location of U.S states on a map as well as the oceans and continents. We also focus on current events weekly.
Grade 6 studies United States History up to the Civil War. In additions to knowing the state capitals, the location of U.S states on a map and oceans and continents the sixth grade has a state project due in the first semester.
Grade 7 studies United States history from the Civil War to the present. In addition to testing the student’s knowledge on the state capitals, the location of U.S states and the oceans and continents on a map, they are tested on the three branches of the United Stated government and what each branch is responsible for. We also focus on current events, debating political issues and complete a number of short research projects on important historical events and people.
Grade 8 studies World Geography using the five themes of geography. The eighth grade is also required to label the state capitals, the location of U.S states, oceans, and continents on a map and match government responsibilities to the three branches of the United Stated government. We also focus on current events weekly, debate different topics, and complete a number of research projects including a country project.
